Making web pages Accessible for everyone is problematic.

Disabilities are so diverse in nature it is nearly impossible to cover all contingencies, however we need to accommodate as many as we can.

Accessibility Familiarisation

Here are a few exercises to help you understand a few difficulties facing users with accessibility issues.

Note that not all accessibility issues require a medical disability.
For example, using lynx in a unix terminal or a laptop without a mouse.

Exercises
  1. Browsershots Check out how your web pages look in a range of web browsers.

  2. With the Web Developer's toolbar installed, turn off images, does the page still make sense ?
  3. Turn off javascript, can you still navigate ?
  4. Try to navigate a website using only the keyboard.
  5. Download an evaluation copy of JAWS screen reader.
    Close your eyes and away you go.
  6. Use lynx, a text only browser, to access several web pages.
